It's easy to sell downloads or image use licenses with Fotomoto - we offer two product options: Downloads and Licenses.
Downloads
Great for event photographers and others who would like to simply sell image file downloads for personal use (only).
Using the Download option, sellers can offer volume discounts by setting tiered pricing for higher quantities ordered. For example, the image price in an order of 2-10 images could be $5 each and the images in an order of 11-20 files could be $4 each.
Customers will receive the file(s) that you provide to complete the order...the resolution of each file is up to you.
Licenses
Using the Licenses option it's possible to sell downloads with either custom licensing terms or with one of four simple terms presets.
Custom license terms
For sellers who want more detailed control over the usage terms and pricing, we offer a "Contact Photographer" option. When the buyer clicks the "Download" Buy Button, they'll be asked to fill in a form about their intended use of the image, and Fotomoto emails this information to the seller in a licensing inquiry email. The seller can respond from their Fotomoto Dashboard and communicate back-and-forth with the customer about terms and then set the selling price. Finally, Fotomoto will email the customer a special link where they can purchase the image at the agreed-upon price.
The discussion between the seller and customer is stored in the Fotomoto Dashboard for future reference.
Preset license terms
Fotomoto offers four simple preset license terms that sellers can use to quickly set up photo licensing sales. Please note these terms can not be customized:
- 'Wallpaper': a 1440px x 900px (max) file for personal use.
- 'Screen Size': a 1440px x 900px (max) file for commercial use.
- 'Original Size': the original size image (native camera resolution) for commercial use.
- 'Exclusive': the original size image (native camera resolution) for exclusive use.
When an order is placed and the seller has provided the needed high resolution files, the customer will receive an email which contains a link to a page where they can agree to the terms and download their images. The file they download will be a ZIP file that they can decompress to find their images.
How to set up Downloads in the Dashboard
Just follow these steps to start selling Downloads
- Log in to the Fotomoto Dashboard and click the Store tab.
- In the desired Collection, click the on/off switch to turn Downloads on.
- Click the Download product icon then select License or Download under the 'Download type' heading.
- Configure the product options and pricing.
About the Download files
When a customer purchases a download, they are not buying the image file posted on the your website; same as with prints, download files come from the high-resolution file you provide after an order comes in. We'll email you when a high-resolution file is needed (or you can use Auto Pickup to find your print files automatically). Note the smaller Wallpaper and Screen size files will be generated automatically from the high resolution files you provide.
